The entire education paradigm has been undergoing quite a tectonic shift for some time now.

This shift has happened at multiple levels.

Content

Education is no longer just about teaching conventional subjects like Mathematics, History, Geography etc.,. Its scope has widened to include vocational training, language training, media competence etc. 

Methodology

The idea that students have to be present in a physical classroom for ‘instruction’ is now passé.  Online instruction and education had slowly started to gain momentum. In China alone there are 300 million people - the population of the USA - learning English online.  Online English lessons are not just restricted to spoken / written English but also to impart specialized training to help students pass different examinations – TOEIC, IELTS, TOEFL etc. The prevalent COVID-19 pandemic has given impetus to the already burgeoning online education market.

Content 

Educational content has shifted dramatically from staid academic classroom content to dynamic, highly varied content with ‘place of delivery’ becoming quite irrelevant.

Methodology

The earlier ‘I talk you listen’ methodology has been replaced by a highly interactive approach.

Delivery Mechanism

The change in methodology has necessitated deployment of technologies that are complementary and support student participation by speaking, writing, drawing etc.
